Sanath Jayasuirya showed that at 37 years of age he had more to offer, with 2006 being his best year. His innings of 73 was crucial towards sri lanka chasing down 300+ to beat South africa in the final innings to win the test match and the series 2-0.
Sri Lankan boy’s love of beach cricket on the Galle foreshore culminated in New Zealand’s batsmen being all at sea at the Basin Reserve. Chris Barclay details the fast bowling menace that is Lasith ‘Slinga’ Malinga.
The unnerving aspect about facing Lasith Malinga is you know pretty much exactly what’s coming - it’s just seeing it and getting your cricket bat in the way that’s the problem.
Equipped with an explosive round-arm action he generates genuine pace by winding up and releasing the ball at a lower than standard trajectory, directly in front of the umpire’s body between the neckline or midriff.
He’ll pepper batsmen with a bouncer or three, then maybe throw in a knee high full toss, before zeroing in a sandshoe crushing, 150kmh yorker at the base of the stumps.
It rarely gets any more complicated than that - it’s simple but effective.
Last Over…1 run needed off 6 balls…easy right…lol…

12/31/2006-Queenstown Events Center
Sanath 70 off 44 balls 4s/7-6s/5
Sanga 79
Maharoof 21 off 11 balls 6s/2
Sanath Jayasuriya smashes 70 in 44 balls and powers Sri Lanka to 262 vs NZ at Auckland, 6th Jan 2006. He is now the record holder again for most sixers in his career in ODI’s (220 vs Afridi’s 217)
Sanath Jayasuriya gave Sri Lanka a blazing start with his 44-ball 70, flaying five sixes in the first 15 overs, and after Mark Gillespie inspired a mini-collapse Kumar Sangakkara consolidated the innings with a relatively composed 79. Farveez Maharoof then finished off the innings strongly with a power-packed cameo to leave New Zealand chasing a challenging 263 in the fourth one-day at Eden Park in Auckland.
